MOTS-c Peptide

MOTS-c (Mitochondrial Open Reading Frame of the Twelve S rRNA-C) is a mitochondrial-derived peptide that regulates metabolic homeostasis and cellular stress responses. It enhances insulin sensitivity, promotes glucose utilization, and activates the AMPK pathway, linking mitochondrial function to systemic metabolism (Lee et al., 2015). Studies indicate MOTS-c protects against obesity, insulin resistance, and age-related metabolic decline (Reynolds et al., 2021). It also exerts cytoprotective effects by modulating reactive oxygen species (ROS) and inflammatory pathways. While promising for metabolic and age-related diseases, further clinical research is needed to confirm its long-term safety and efficacy.
